Fire 2020

FIRE 20/20 Team

Larry Sagen, Founder

Larry has been actively involved in marketing, community organizing, organizational development, and change management for 30 years. He started nonprofit FIRE 20/20 in 2005 to help fire and emergency services departments better connect with their multicultural communities to increase the reach and effectiveness of targeted recruitment and prevention programs.

Larry discovered his passion for the fire service while helping Ergometrics Applied Personnel Research, Inc. to launch and market FireTEAM—a video-based testing system.

Prior to his work with the fire service, Larry founded and directed the non-profit International Youth Hall of Fame (IYHF) for twelve years. IYHF helped communities around the country to come together to acknowledge and celebrate the positive contributions of more than 5,000 everyday school-age youth. IYHF was awarded honors by the Points of Light Foundation, the New York Times, and the Los Angeles Times. In 2002, IYHF was merged with the Points of Light Foundation.

Before embarking down the nonprofit path, Larry worked for seventeen years in the for-profit world, where he helped to start a number of businesses and was a marketing manager with former computer giant, Digital Equipment Corporation.

Larry is a well respected speaker and workshop presenter. He has presented at numerous regional, national and international conferences and meetings including FRI, Metro Chiefs, IAFF Human Relations, IAFF EMS, Canadian Fire Chiefs, National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, National Association of Hispanic Firefighters, i-Women, International Association of Black Professional Firefighters, National League of Cities Annual Congress, Search Institute International Healthy Communities-Healthy Youth, Equity & Diversity Conference (Virginia), and National Association of Radio Talk Show Hosts.

Larry received his undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota. He has a Masters Degree in Social Work from Washington University.
